Western Band

Western bands of St. Lawrence’s convent, Colombo 06 were established under the guidance of Rev. Sr. Principals and teachers many years ago. And now it has came up to a good standard with a long history and lots of victories and cheerful colors which brought the name of Lawrentians to the highest level.

According to the certain age limits there are three western bands in our school. And they are,

• » Primary western band – for the primary school

• » Junior western band – for grade 06/07/08/09

• » Senior western band – for grade 09/10/11/12/13

ACHIEVEMENTS & EVENTS PARTICIPATED IN THE PAST FEW YEARS BY OUR WESTERN BANDS

• YEAR 2017

Senior Western Band won the bronze medal from the all island competition of performing arts which was held at the museum auditorium, under the leadership of Rumisha Karunathilaka.

Also the Junior Western Band won the silver medal from the above competition, under the leadership of Virginia Wickremesekara.

• YEAR 2016

Senior Western Band participated in the Wesley College band show “ PULSE ‘16 ” and showed their colors in, Under the leadership of Shehara Jayasuriya

Senior Western Band won the gold medal and was named as the “ BEST SCHOOL BRASS BAND FOR THE YEAR 2016” by the festival for western music and speech, Under the leadership of a Shehara Jayasuriya.

• YEAR 2015

Senior Western Band participated in St. Bridget’s Convent band show which was held in the Nelum Pokuna, Under the leadership of Shashini Abeysinghe.

Senior Western Band won the silver medal in the festival for western music and speech, Under the leadership of Shashini Abeysinghe.

Juinor Western Band also won a silver medal in the above mentioned festival in their age group, Under the leadership of Rishni Feranando.

• YEAR 2014

Senior Western Band won the silver medal in the festival for western music and speech, Under the leadership of Roshain Fernandopulle.

And also the Junior Western Band also won a silver medal on the above mentioned festival, Under the leadership of Surani De Silva.

• YEAR 2013

Senior Western Band won the gold medal and was named as the “ BEST SCHOOL BRASS BAND FOR THE YEAR 2013” by the festival for western music and speech, Under the leadership of Roshain Fernandopullle.

Junior Western Band was placed 3rd in district level which was held by the ministry of education, Under the leadership of Shenali Peiris.

And as well as the Junior Western Band won a gold medal for “ THE BEST SCHOOL BAND “ award in the festival for western music and speech.

Primary Western Band also won the same award as “THE BEST SCHOOL BAND” in the above mentioned competition by their age category.
